Avast Botnet protection
« on: March 03, 2021, 04:30:49 PM »
When did Avast botnet protection commence?  I am stimulated to ask this because Brian Krebs has featured the topic of exploitation of browser extensions.  This can be read in the following link:-
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2021/03/is-your-browser-extension-a-botnet-backdoor/

I can see the botnet protection option in Web Shield settings but haven't a clue when it first appeared there. Does it include the neutralising of rogue browser extensions?

I'm not sure, but I think:

20.4.2410 (2020-6-3) - Botnet protection - Web Shield can also block all connections to malicious servers. The functionality is in test mode for this release, which is expected to be full scale in the next release.

20.5.2415 (2020-7-2) - Better botnet protection - Web Shield is even better about stopping malware from connecting to malicious servers.

Thank you Infratech Solutions for that information.  So botnet protection will by now be a mature feature.  I use browser extensions and so now have more confidence in continuing to use them.  It will be interesting to see how the story develops on Brian Krebs's web site.
