[4.7] Resident protection setting not sticky
« on: December 02, 2006, 04:55:46 PM »
Hi,

Although I have set the Resident Protection setting to Standard in Avast 4.7 Home, it always reverts back to Disabled when I check this option again or when I re-launch the program.

Did I miss something or is it a bug?

Thanks in advance.

What is your OS ?
Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

Which one of the providers is it you are talking about ?
There is no Standard level of protection in the resident providers only Normal, High and Custom. Standard is a sensitivity setting in the On-Demand scan.

Problem solved. The Avast antivirus service had not started.

Regards.

The Avast antivirus service had not started.
Patrick, can you see into Windows Events if there is any error related to services not starting...
It's strange that avast service does not start  ::)
How are set your avast! services? Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

I suppose you have to have four avast! services:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner service)

The two first of them should be Automatic loaded and the two last Manually loaded.
The best things in life are free.

The reason a service might not have started could be directly related to my question about other AVs ?

Does the avast icone display in the system tray see image ?

I'm have the same question as well.  The WebShield defaults to "Normal" or "High" only, it won't stay on "Custom".  I can move the slider to "Custom" and select OK, but when I reopen it again, it's back to Normal or High (whichever one it was last set to).  I have "customized" a couple of URL's that I don't want it to scan, but even when I go to those sites, the scanner still seems to process them.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

Simply changing it to Custom won't do anything, unless you change some of the underlying settings that would change the overall level of protection and adding some URLs won't change the scanning of everything only exclude sites.

I only have one exclusion, *.pif and mine is set to High.
