Vista RC2 64bit & Avast 4.7 vs MS Firewall
« on: November 28, 2006, 06:11:07 AM »
Gidday this is my first attempt at this so don't shoot!!! :o

Under MS Firewall exceptions there are instructions as follows:
"The components of avast! 4 that should be allowed to connect:
avast.setup - I can't do because the firewall exceptions are just looking for EXE's etc. & won't allow 'all file type' options.
avastXX.setup (where "XX" are some numbers) - I can't see this anywhere!
aswUpdSv.exe - I have done
ashServ.exe - I have done
ashWebSv.exe - I have done

Basically I can't update the virus definitions- anyone got an answer? ???

There shouldn't be ANY need to add ANY rules to the Vista firewall for the updates to work...

What is the error message you're getting, exactly?
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

No Error message at all.

Upon reboot Avast informs me my virus defs. are out of date & to update them.
I then try this and ... it attempts to but ... nothing happens - no warnings from firewall or error messages!

I was guessing it must be the firewall. :(

Check the file <avast>\setup\setup.log, please...

Hi Vic,

All is good from Home!

I was trying to update from work & our firewall must have been blocking it!
(I had already been asked to produce user & password when setting it up and answered yes but it still must have blocked the updates).

It is used on my own laptop & from home it updated straight away.
Thanks for your time anyway.

Regards,

Vandaman. :D
