Well that must be a HUGE disk corruption then... I wonder what has left on the disk - but to see that, you'd have to use a tool like our avast BART CD (or a boot DOS floppy with something like NTFSDos, if your disks are formatted as NTFS)

I don't see any way how avast could've done that. It treats all files as read-only, i.e. does not alter a single bit in your files unless specifically tell it to do so...

If the drives are not accessible, there's not much you can do... You can either try some of the recovery tools out there (e.g. www.getdataback.com works pretty well) or reformat the drives and do a clean install of Windows and all other SW... :(

already did a reinstall and got everything going again but yes i'm sure that avast did this because all was just fine before the install and it never finished the install and then rebooted to nothing and norton was not running. maybe norton caused this problem but it was because avast does not itergrate well enough to be on the net. if it can in a round about way cause this kind of problem it needs some seriuos work. i always do beta testing before i release anything to the net.

Well the fact is that Norton and avast don't play together. Period. You're right that it crashes very soon. It's neither avast's nor Norton's fault - it's just that these two programs use very similar tricks and as such don't work together...
