I simply clarified the fact that Avast AV isn't a requirement for the browser.
Totally agree with you on fixing the bugs. I don't like them any more than you do.
I probably do more complaints about the bugs than you do but my complaints are quite often
directly to the developers. Some of the bugs have been unpatched for a lot longer than they should have been.

Don't mind me, I'm frustrated. The bugs in Avast Secure Browser are piling up, been living with many of them for a very long time because they were just annoying but not critical to my overall browsing enjoyment. Then broken Adblock (GRRRR!) and now no more Video Downloader (AAARRRGGGHHH!) started, just reached my Full Mark. LOL

The reason I pay for Avast Premium is simple, I wanted to support Avast so they could keep offering us good products. If the Avast (Anti-virus and Browser) development teams are actually doing it for free out of the generosity of their sweet little pea-pickin' hearts, KUDOS to them, but even if employees are working for no pay, there still must be monetary support for other things like keeping the lights on.

Thing is, when I 1st started using Avast Secure Browser it worked almost seamlessly (except for Translate, it never has worked), but with every successive update something else breaks that wasn't broken before. Wrong direction! Perhaps they could review their previous code from a couple of years ago and trace the changes up to present. I realize it may not be possible to use old code, since many changes were in response to changes made by outside entities like Y.ouT.ube.

Avast Secure Browser does carry the Avast name, therefore it is a public representative of Avast, reflecting on the entire range of Avast products, whether it should or not, perception is everything. At this point, Avast Secure Browser is reflecting poorly on Avast's public face, everyone in whatever branch of Avast should care about that, if they want to remain a viable company.

bob3160, You look like two very nice people, but your replies...?
So, are you suggesting I stop paying for Avast Premium because I can enjoy the bugfest Avast Secure Browser is for free?

My reply, in the same vein as yours: FIX AVAST SECURE BROWSER for ALL users, paid and free. How 'bout that?

I don't believe bob was saying that at all (as he confirmed), just that the Avast Secure Browser is a stand alone program in its own right.

It is your choice to purchase Avast Premium and the additional protection/functions that it has or you could use Avast Free if it meets your needs (it does for me).  If you do decide to install the Avast Secure Browser and also have Avast antivirus then there is a greater integration between the two programs.

So they are two separate decisions.

Yes wouldn't it be great if it worked flawlessly, but don't lose sight of the fact the ads being blocked are going to impact revenue streams of those sites/services.  Now in the case of blocking Youtu.be ads, I'm sure they would be doing their best to prevent ads being blocked, so it can be a bit of an arms race.

I don't use the Avast Secure Browser (outside of some testing I did) as I much prefer my default browser Firefox (or non Chrome or Chromium based browsers) and I don't see that many ads with uBlock Origin and uMatrix add-ons.
One of the reasons I posted my alternative fix. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=256094.msg1596287#msg1596287

This was one of the early issues I had with the Avast Secure Browser, it was very restrictive in the extensions you could add.

It is nice to see that has been relaxed somewhat  8)

Added uBlock Origin as suggested. Had used Duck-Duck-Go's Adblock previously and it worked. Also use a stand-alone video downloader (won't mention it's name here) that works on EVERYTHING including YT, even Twitter. LOL A few extra steps, but can get those videos I want from any source, a big plus.

On sites I support, I disable all ad blocking, unless they have a lot of popups and splash screens. :)

You don't have to add uBlock Origin, because it is already available from the settings :

Click the 3 points in the right upper corner > Extensions > Developer mode > Avast Anti Tracking > Details > Extension options ...

It states based on uBlock origin and currently isn't working. Adding uBlock origin does work.

Does it not say based on uBlock?  This is not uBlock Origin!

Hi Bob,

For me it is working : the settings, selecting other filter lists etc. etc.
No idea why it is different for others.

I have no idea, myself. All I know is that I had the same problem at some point; but some time later, Adblock was working for me until I updated my version of Avast! Free Antivirus. (The current version is 21.4.2464.) I don't know if it's a bug that came with the update, or what.  :-\
