What is your email program ?
What Operating System are you using ?

What is your firewall ? Does it allow ashMaiSv.exe internet access ?
Are you getting any errors, if so what ?

Does your ISP (?) insist that you use SSL (secure encrypted) email ?
If so avast, nor any other scanner not integrated into the email client can scan it, that is the purpose of secure email.

Do you use WebMail, viewed through your browser Or are you downloading hotmail/msn mail through OE ?

Is the Internet Mail provider enabled and is ashMaiSv.exe listed in the Task Manager ?
Are you using any other security software that also monitors email ?

You could check the XP Firewall and ensure ashMaiSv.exe is listed in the exceptions.

No on the ISP and no I do not use WEB mail the only Email I use is Outlook Express 6. I have been using Avast all this time so I would say my ISP allows this. The only other program I have is SPYWAREfighter for spyware. Do not no how to check my Firewal to see if ashMaiSv.exe is listed in the exceptions.
I have tried to check it and could not find a way in Windows XP with service pack 2.

Are you talking about the notice is added to the bottom of an email that says avast has scanned that email? If so, left click the "a" icon, click on internet mail provider, custumize button, make sure both boxes are checked on the pop tab and the smpt tab. The top box will tell avast to scan and the bottom one will insert note.

Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Exceptions, see image.

However, this might be immaterial as it would appear your email is now being received since you are now saying it isn't marking clean email ?

Was this the problem you first reported, no clean note in emails rather than avast not scanning emails ?
