Under the Advanced Tab, why are those particular files/extensions under the files listed to be excluded from scans there? Is it because they cannot aid a virus infection or is there another reason?

They're there because they're temporary, rebuild, files... so they won't be infected. If they were, they'll be rebuilt, clean, by Windows.
Or they're uninfectable  8)
