Registration Key Not Accepted
« on: January 07, 2007, 06:40:55 AM »
I did a search for this topic but didn't find anything that answered my question.

I bought a new computer and reinstalled my Avast on the new computer.  I requested my lost registration key to be sent to me from the Avast server and received that email.  Then I tried copying and pasting the key into the registration key box and it wasn't accepted.  I got a message stating "The parameter is incorrect".  Any suggestions?

when you copy  make certain you don't have a blank space at the end.

Nope that wasn't it.   :(  Is there supposed to be a - before the last 7 digits in the Key?

Do you mean your key is correct? 18+8
Are you the Windows XP Administrator in this computer?
Is there any other administrator accounts?
Did you use the trial period or you're just registering the Home version?

The three common key issues are
1. extra space when copying
2. wrong system date
3. not logged in with adminstrator rights

With the parameter error it usually is the space at the end issue. Did you try manually entering the key?

I gave up and just re-registered, so far it's working now.

Yes that's what I meant.

Yes I am the administrator.

No, I am the only user on this computer.

I have been a registered user for over a year.  I recently bought a new computer and needed to install Avast on the new computer.  I tried to input my last registration key but received the error message

"The parameter is incorrect"
as stated in one of my posts above.

I viewed the suggested links...

http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-invalid-license-number.html Or Insert Registration Key - Video
and did not get any new results after.  I finally gave up and just re-registered.  The new key was accepted and so far the program is working ok.

Although I did try manually entering the key originally and continued to get the same error, when I copy and pasted my new registration key I did notice the last key did not paste with the rest of them.

The last 8 digits are not visisble for security reasons.

You old key may have expired, but you would have thought that the error would have been "expired or invalid". Would have made things easier for you.  ;D

Any way, you should be good to go. Glad you sorted it out and welcome to the forum.
