Program reports unknown error

Hi, I'm using v. 4.7 or rather I'm trying to use it. The splash screen loads, and the memory scan begins but then I get an error message saying 'The scan completed with error 42000 = Unknown error'. When I click 'OK', the program then loads but when I click on 'Scan' I get the same message. This also happens when I try to run on demand scanning so I think it must be a problem with the program rather than my PC especially as the program worked fine up until today. If anyone can offer any advice, I'd appreciate it very much.

See if a repair of avast solves it. How to do it has been explained many times on this board.

Please update to the latest 4.7.938 version.
Maybe the problem is solved...
