On www.download.com there is a poll, "Which antivirus program do you use?" and Avast is currently on 3:d place (040204 15:22 CET). Please vote for the best AV around :D!!!

Kind of a bogus poll to pit free anti-virus programs with highly advertized virus scanners.

I wonder if Norton had anything to do with this poll?  hmmm

Been there, done that -- or tried, anyway.

I get the Download newsletter, and there was a link to the poll in that.  Or maybe it was to the article, with a link from there to the poll.

I selected avast (what else?) and hit the "Submit" button.  At that point there was a delay and then I got transferred to my (blank) home page.  No "Thank you", no look at the results to date, and I don;t even know if my vote got counted.

for the heck of it i voted to i wanted to see what  the percentage were.

norton was 69%
mcafee was 20 something percent
avast was 4 %

To me that tells me there are a lot of ppl out there that buy stuff because "everyone uses it"  and don't know to much about alternative very good software like AVAST

I gave AVAST my vote of course!!!!

Norton has a GIANT leap in the polls.

Who the hell uses Norton???  ??? It really does suck and has lousy tech support.  :P

Symantec even pays techtv to tell about it on their shows!

Slightly O/T - this is more related to the "What brought you here?".  I first heard of avast from buddies at one of my medical support groups (this was back in its avast-32 days).  They said one of the things they liked best about it was that on a number of occasions it had caught things for them that had slipped right past Norton.

As for tech support -- well, I don't think there's any question that these forums are marvelous.

Well, any one with any business experience or education would tell you that Avast is a "market nicher" and I'm impressed that the folks thought highly enough to include it in the poll.  For the sake of argument, let's just say that the poll is representative of the market.  That would leave Avast with approx. 5% of a huge billion dollar industry market.  That is something the Alwil staff should be proud of 8).  I would like to get a look at Alwil financial ratios.

So, my question is when is Alwil going to go public so we can all buy shares in the company????? :o

The caveat here is that 99% of those people are using the FREE Home version which doesn't really generate too much profit... ;)

What I found funny was 5.0% of people would rather have no AV protection than use eTrust, Kaspersky or F-Prot !!!  ;) ;)
