Multi-page forums
« on: February 05, 2004, 07:05:45 PM »
Hi all,

I've definitely got to start getting up earlier -- the last week or so, postings in the Home-Pro forum typically include "new" well into the second page.  :-[

I like to pick up on those from the oldest "new" ones forward.  If I've read one topic and then use either the "Jump to" at the bottom or the tree at the top to return, it starts me on Page 1 again and I have to go back to Page 2 each time till I've finished that page.

"Back" will usually work, but occasionally gives me a "page expired" error.

Any suggestions for a simple and reliable way to stay on Page 2 till I'm done with it?

Thanks, and best to all,
Mike

But really, isn't there a param that would let us list more lines on one page (more than the default 20)?

There is - but how many topics do you have in mind? 30? 40? It will be displayed in all boards at all times...

Is it part of the user profile, or is it global for all users?

Since the traffic has somewhat grown during the last months, there's often more than 20 unread topics when I connect to the forum (and I do it pretty often) - so it's kind of inconvenient to scroll to the other pages...

Maybe increasing this parameter to 30 would be adequate for now...

Thanks.

It is global parameter. Done - it is set to 30 since now...

Thanks, gentlemen.  :)  It looks like I wasn't the only one running into this problem (ok, really just a minor nuisance).

Thirty is good but better would be what Vlk asked: a profile setting  ;)

That would be nice but (almost) similar to saying: I'd like if Word had this and this in the Options dialog.

Remember that we've not programmed this forum software. :)

open all intereresting topics in new windows/tabs.

kubecj's advice was probably the simplest solution, and of course is independent of any global settings.  Admittedly I haven't yet run into an "overlap" to second page since the global setting was increased to 30 per page.
