Sygate Firewall Free Edition really seems to work great, takes up less system resources than ZoneAlarm, and works without those avast!-update-problems, someone mentioned earlier in some other thread... Sygate asked me only twice for permission regarding avast! updates, and it asked me never again...

Ok, I'm not being payed from Zone Labs but the few resources more than Sygate worth for the better UI (as you stated in other forums, the GUI is important), reliability, simplicity...
Of course, I had no trouble with allowing avast! the access to update in ZA  

Oh, I forgot, I use Sygate for a while. It's a great personal firewall too.

True,ZoneAlarm has the nicest and best organized GUI,but Sygate is not far behind. Its not so colorful,but its very simple and when you get used to it,you wont change it

OK, here I go now... it's my turn...

Sygate - GUI - score: 6 (scale 1-10)
ZoneAlarm - GUI -score: 3 (scale 1-10)

Why ? Sygate has very simple, but effective GUI, although I would make it little bit futuristic (not "gamey" style, but little bit more "tech" style) without taking so much system resources on behalf of fancy graphics. I know good way how to do it...  

ZoneAlarm works great, wonderful and it looks nice, actually very nice, but sometimes it's very, very boring... just like when you use Internet Explorer. I couldn't find any major problem working with IE, it's just kinda boring. That's why I started to use Mozilla Firefox and MyIE2.

ZoneAlarm should have smaller screen (working area), and that's the first thing I would change in there... second... that ugly big font.

Try this:
Opera 7.23 (browser + very fast e-mail client with cool spamfilter)
WebWasher 3.3 (webfilter)
Sygate 5.5 Firewall (ok you have this one )
avast! 4.1 (and this one too)

And Sygate has a nice feature that can hide Browser type and OS header when browsing. Better anonymity Probably this is only for Pro version...
