Hello, dear beta testers.

We've just released a free beta testing of a new installer and updater for Avast Antivirus (21.3.6164.386), and we're asking for your help.

Could you please install it and try it out? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated - thank you!

What is new
Brand new installer and updater for faster installation and update times. The installed Antivirus is the same as in regular Beta release, except it might be a version behind for now.

Target audience
Experienced Beta users with a heart for adventure.

What to expect
The brand new installer and updater.
After installation, the Beta updates will have different timing. The update channel is separate, and updates are released with slightly different timing now. We will sync the releases in near future.

How can you help
Simply download and install.
You can also try installing and uninstalling some AV components, start a repair installation, reinstall, or uninstall scenario and install it again.
Please report your feedback, especially when something unexpected happens. There is a list of known issues below.

How to report unexpected behavior
Please zip these two folders and include a screenshot. Thank you!
  • C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Icarus\
  • C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\Log\
If you want to revert to current installer
Uninstall this version (via Add/Remove programs in Windows), then download and install regular Beta installation package.
Use the Clear tool to remove installation completely, if everything else fails.

Download links
Clear tool
Known issues:
  • Installation using these packages over current-installer installation is only possible if the product is installed in default installation folder (C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\).
  • Coexistence of Avast Antivirus installed with new-installer and AVG Antivirus installed with current-installer on the same machine is not supported, so please uninstall AVG before you install AVAST.
  • Products installed with this new-installer cannot be re-installed with current-installer, please uninstall and then re-install.
  • Rescue Disk cannot be created in this version. It will be fixed with next update.
  • Support tool has compatibility issues in terms of checking AV status and subscription details; however, it works just fine.

Hi, just tried this new one. :)

[Installation]
Maybe because of firewall, something went wrong with the installer. Is "Error: 111111" correct? (icarus_installer.png)
Character encoding of log window must be wrong, part of error messages (possibly Japanese) became unreadable. (icarus_installer2.png)

[After reboot]
Avast not activated after reboot. A few minutes later, it finally activated. (failed2.png)

[Program Update]
When trying program update, settings panel just closes. (FTP: update_20210428_230603.mp4)

Logs are on the FTP: NON_log.7z.

Hello NON,

than you very much for your report. Our developers will check your logs and hopefully we will find what caused this issue. I would like to ask you:
1) Am I correct that you reinstalled original Avast AV BETA build (21.4) with this new package?
2) can you please tell me what firewall is install/enabled on your machine? Avast FW? + I noticed you mentioned "Evorim Free Firewall" in your machine description. Is it also installed and enabled? It can be related to curl errors in your log

Thank you

Lukas

Hi Lukas,

1) Am I correct that you reinstalled original Avast AV BETA build (21.4) with this new package?
I originally used beta build 21.4 but this new installer installs 21.3.6164 instead.
Installed over beta 21.4, not clean install.

Yes, Avast firewall and Evorim firewall are both enabled. I allowed avast's installer but maybe it's too late.

Hello,

today we published new AV 21.4.6213.426 build to this BETA channel. Can you please wait for automatic application update or start update manually and let us know if it finished successfully? (You can check for example version in Avast UI -> Menu -> About. There should be 21.4.6213 version instead of 21.3.6164). Thank you

Lukas

Checked for update, saw the image that looks as though it was looking for an update.
Next received a message to restart the computer.
After the system restarted, I was greeted with this,

Refreshing the screen brought up the UI with a message that the
program was out of date and needed to be updated.
I selected the update option but no update just the normal screen
and the system is protected. Here's the current about screen.

Updated.
Firstly AvastUI tray-icon shows blue (new notification) but main UI did not show anything. After some UI open-close, suddenly "Restart required" popup appeared, and main UI turned as well. No glitch after restart here, except for Program Update UI one (same as 21.3.6164).

bob3160, NON: Hi guys, thank you very much for your report

bob3160: Am I correct that "Sorry, our screen didn't load" error message is not displayed anymore? -> AV UI can be opened and works now. We probably induced the same issue on our internal machine but for sure: Can you please collect and send us applications logs? Thank you

NON: issue that main UI is opened if you click on "Check for updates" is already reported in our bug-tracking system and hopefully will be fixed soon. Also issue  with "11111" screen after reinstall scenario mentioned in your original post should be fixed and waits for our internal test. Thank you

Hi lukas, update seems went fine, but I can't click "In 10 minutes" from "Remind me later" button. No response when clicked. Other options are clickable.
