will not load pages

Hi all, I downloaded avast home edition and got it running. now that it is installed and running I cannot get into different web pages. My home page is yahoo yet it will not load. neither will msn however I can get into my account for classes. any one have any ideas. If I turn it off everything works fine. system is windows xp running firefox 2.0

What is your firewall (Zone Alarm Pro perhaps) ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?

Don't disable the whole avast protection, terminate the web shield provider as a temp measure.

Sorry should have put that in I am running comodo firewall version2.4.17.183

Just ensure that ashWebSv.exe has internet access.

Delete the entry and force Comodo to ask again when you try to connect.

Though I don't know if this will work as you report that you can access some sites, are the pages you can visit https (secure) ?

Check that you have the latest version of comodo, I know there have been some reported issues with it in the forums, so a forum search for comodo might reveal some more info.
