i lost my registration key ,
my old pc had problems so i got another pc how do i get avast to work on this one ?
it is already downloaded.

Presumably you are talking about the Pro version. If so then you need to contact sales (at) avast (dot) com with information on your license purchase, rough date, email used, etc. and then they may be able to track down the details and send it again.

If Avast won't uninstall the normal way try the uninstall utility.

Are you sure you have the genuine Avast?
If you do, the uninstall utility linked by Marc57 will do the job, you may have to run it in safe mode.

Some users don't know to disable the self protection module. This will cause problems with uninstalling. Right click the blue ball, select "settings", then "troubleshooting", then disable the self protection module. It should uninstall normally. Wouldn not hurt at all to run the uninstall utility (in normal mode) following this.

If you don't mind my asking, why do you need to uninstall it?

Welcome to the forums, germane.   :)

You should modify your post above to remove your email address unless you like receiving spam email.

This is a public forum and spambots like very much to troll public forums for email addresses.

A friend of mine has apparently picked up a Trojan/virus that is lowering his internet explorer security settings and posting a message that it can automatically fix the problem. Also when I try to run Avast boot scan it reports a keyboard error and will not run.  Thanks James Smith

Welcome, Jim -

Did you read my post just above yours?

That goes for your email address also ... unless you enjoy an email inbox full of spam.

I had to improvise. I grabbed my own graphics and used the old links. It still gives me credit for any referrals. ( I Hope. )
Example can be found here:

New links would certainly help !  :)

Just a quick reply not to address the issue yet, but to say I strongly suggest you use the "modify" button on that last post above to edit out the key, and your email.

This really should be in its own new topic in the avast! Free/Pro/Suite forum, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 so as not to confuse this unrelated problem and we can get on it. Essentially you can install the latest avast 5 pro version on the new system and convert the old license for a new one you can use. You then need to remove the installation from the old system. More info on the new topic if required.

To bad it will not let anyone register, As I tried and it doesnt send verifacation email like it says it will. and I am one unhappy camper about avast's lack of tech support for paying customers like myself. Used to think avast was great but not anymore. never had any problems until just to check my system I ran a virus scan. I was not having any problems nor virus messages til then. now I have a message that will not stay gone for long. and no support to get rid of it. Not Impressed at all

I have just registered another an account on support.avast.com and I was sent the email within seconds, so I don't know why you didn't.

Although some users have reported that mail from avast! does not arrive. This is usually because their ISP blocks mail from avast! without informing the user. But webmail works...

Try a free webmail account, I use Gmail and all mail from avast! gets in straight away, and not in spam...
