Any way to delay the first update check?
« on: March 02, 2007, 11:43:21 PM »
Is there a way to delay the first update so it doesn't slow my PC down to a crawl right after it boots up?  Ideally, it would like the first update to occur maybe 5 or 10 minutes after booting.

OK then, but I doubt it needs to be 5 to 10 minutes.
It also depends on your connection dial-up or broadband ?

You need to edit the [InetWD] section of the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\avast4.ini file and add the following line (depending on your connection type enter one or other of the Bold lines below):

Dial-up connections, add
RASWaitSeconds=120

Broadband connections, add
AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds=120

The figure is seconds and the above equates to two minutes, you could try that and adjust upwards if required, 180, 240, etc.

It's worth noting that this will work only if the connection type is selected in avast program settings (dial-up or broadband)

Cheers

Thanks!  I assume that when an avast program update pulls down, it won't over write my changes to this .ini?

Thanks.  The delay is working but the slowdown is still present until I unload avast services.  I will start a new topic.

What is your standard shield sensitivity setting, Normal, High, Custom ?
What other security programs do you have running at boot, firewall, anti-spyware, etc. ?

The sensitivity is set to normal and I only have Kerio Firewall and avast running at startup.  I created a new topic for this here...
