I am running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition on my Acer laptop with an Intel Centrino Duo 1.6GHz Processor, and 1GB of RAM.
I have downloaded Avast Professional 4.7.942 and tried to install it. An error message popped up twice during installation saying "Installation failed", but completed anyway, and asked me to reboot. I did, and when computer restarted, I had the red circle over the Avast icon in the system tray.
When I clicked on the Avast icon, it popped up another error message saying "avast!: The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.". I have searched the FAQ and found a suggestion, but it only works for XP, not for Vista. I tried it anyway to see if it would do anything, and the Avast Antivirus service was not started.
When I selected start, it came up with an error message saying "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
I do not have any other anti-virus software installed on my computer. I have tried uninstalling, redownloading and reinstalling Avast, but I get the same errors.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I have been using Avast for some years when I had XP Professional, and never had any problems with it. Thank you
