Avast for new laptop
« on: April 01, 2007, 12:17:31 AM »
I own a registered version (4.7) on my desktop at home.  I just purchased a new laptop and want to use Avast Antivirus on it as well.  When I get it hooked up to the internet, can I access/download Avast Antivirus and Anti-Spyware from the same source as a second license or application?  Is there a fee/charge?

Also, the laptop came with a 60-day version of NAV - from reading in the Forum, I presume most would recommend I delete it???

Thanks

Yes, delete it & download & use the Norton removal tool from their website before installing avast!.  Leftovers from Norton can cause avast! to disable some of its providers.

The same avast! Home Edition license can be used on all your home computers using avast! Home Edition, no charge.

Download any applications you need on your other system and save them to CD, USB drive, etc. and transfer to new laptop.

What version of avast are you using Home/Pro ?
If home you can use the same registration/license key on the laptop provided you qualify for home/non-commercial use.

You will need to uninstall NAV, not just delete it.
You may also need to take other measure if you experience any problems with leftovers but we can cross that bridge later if needs be.

No problem, glad we could help.

If you need any more help you know where we are.

Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.

Hello all.
I would like to ask the same question but more specifically:
I have registered the Pro version in my old laptop. I bought another one and I want to move the registered Pro from my old laptop before selling it and install it to my new one.
It is NOT home, it is business environment.
Is it permissible to uninstall from the old and install in the new with the same key for the rest of the bought time or do I need to purchase a new key?

Thank you in advance,
Zafiris

As far as I'm aware it is OK to switch systems provided the original installation is removed, I believe this question was recently asked in the forums with this answer.

I'm an avast user and don't work for Alwil Software so I can't speak for them, you could contact sales @ avast.com (without the spaces) and confirm.
