American ISP's sell personal "clickstream data"!
« on: March 19, 2007, 10:01:44 PM »
Hi forum members,

American Internet Service Providers sell personal "clickstream-data" of their clients according to David Cancel of Compete. Compete is one of the big research firms that buy these data, without IP-addresses, but the sequence of the clickstream data can identify the personal search history of someone on the Internet. Selling clickstream data is big business and happens on a grand scale, there are 12 big firms involved that buy these data, so your ISP may earn as an average $5 per month on your personal clickstream, that is $60 a year. This is much worse than the recent AOL incident ever was, and when asked the major Americal ISP's refused to comment, http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070315-your-isp-may-be-selling-your-web-clicks.html

I'm sure that all depends on who is doing the asking.  :(

Well, that doesn't surprise me. In America, we have a saying where money is concerned. "Where there's a will, there's an angle."
