Multiple (3 or 4) AvastUI.exe in Task Manager. WHY?
« on: May 18, 2021, 06:25:37 PM »
Hi guys 'n' gals,
Running a WIN7 HP desk top PC.

Why is AVAST now running 3 or 4 instances of the AvastUI.exe in the Task Manager?

Seems a tad over board to me.

AVAST free version details...

Program version = 21.3.2459 (build 21.3.6164.661)
Virus Defs = 210517-14
# of Defs = 23,973,878
UI version = 1.0.617

&....The UI is very slow to load, as are any of/all my programs.

Only running the basic options.

Why 4 is this so?

Ta muchly.

Regards, Mike..

Asked and answered in many topics.

Essentially instead of just being one entry and it multitasking (making it a bit slower) now you see multiple occurrences, which should reduce as tasks are completed.  But this will usually leave two instances of avastui.exe.  I have three running, but they aren't actually using much CPU or RAM.

Just take a look at firefox.exe as one such instance, instead of having just one instance of it, now it is almost one for every open tab.

MS have ended win7 support unless you are on an extend support contract.  How much longer Avast will support it is another question.

However your Win7 system is now getting a bit long in the tooth and you may need to consider what programs are allowed to run on boot and what applications are using the most CPU and RAM

Hi David,
Thanks for the info.
The thing is...a site search for any info on the subject brings a few results from many years ago.
Nothing really specific.

On the subject of WIN7 & EOL...
I have tried WIN10 but it did not/does not support all of my programs & hardware, such as my CANON scanner.
(No updated drivers for it, as it's too old but still functioning just fine.)
Being an old/er spark/tech. I don't like to throw things out just because.......
Been repairing stuff for too long.  ;)

I run a heap of PRO programs that will not run on WIN10.

Anyway, enough of that.

Thanks again David.

Stay safe.

Regards, Mike..

I wouldn't know why AvastUI runs with multiple parallel incarnations but hazard a guess that 'process isolation' achieved by seperating operations into multiple processes is for the purpose of increased security. I know that Google Chrome and other chromium browsers already practice this and Mozilla Firefox might also be doing so.
