WinME .dll file needed
« on: March 23, 2007, 06:09:57 PM »
I am trying to install (again) a D-Link DWL-G630 wireless card on a Win98 laptop. The card is compatible with Win98 machines but needs a WinME version of: iphlpapi.dll to run properly. If one of you fine people have a WinME machine or disk, please send me a copy of the iphlpapi.dll file by way of PM or email. I would be very grateful.

How does this relate to Avast! you ask? When I get online I can update my Avast! of course. Thanks for the help.

A Google search has shown up Win98 and WinXP versions, but the site where I used to get the WinME file is no longer supplying a version usable on Win98. It now has a self-installer that only works with WinME.

I have, if I'm not mistaken, an old CD with Windows Me.
Is this file there? I should find the CD before...

In Win98 this .dll is located in the Windows>system folder. I appreciate your help.

I sent it to your e-mail address.

By sheer luck I happen to have a Win ME machine that I'm working on (bad power supply)

I have not received it yet. The address in my profile is correct. Note the _ between words. Thanks for your help.

I am forwarding the Kiss gif to a friend of mine who also likes (loves really) Kiss also. At my age rock music means Steely Dan.

Bob: The file you placed in "MySharedFiles" is the iphlpapi.exe self-install file that will only install on a WinME OS. I need the .dll file by itself. It can be copied from a working WinME Windows file or from the WinME CD. Supper is calling!

Yes Bob, it does to me too. It changed to an .exe file when I tried to "Save as". When I right click and check Properties it says it is the WinXP SP2 (5.1.2600.2180)version. The WinME version is 4.90.3000.0. The only version that will work unfortunately is the WinME one. Getting this D-Link card to work on a Win98 machine has been a lesson in patience. Marc57 has emailed me what I believe is the correct .dll. I will soon know. I will make sure to keep it in a safe place so I do not have to go through all this again. Thanks to all.

Hi GeneJ!

I know you already received this file, but these two links can help in future:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?iphlpapi

and

http://www.dlldump.com/dll-files/I_9.html

There are some more of course, but your file is listed there so I haven't searched any further.

Hope this can help to someone next time.

Cheers!

szc: Thanks for doing a search for me, but as I discovered during my Google search there are many different versions of the iphlpapi.dll file out there. Your first link is for the WinXP SP1 version (5.1.2600.2) and your second link is to the WinXP SP2 version (5.1.2600.2180). The only version that will work in this application is the WinME version (4.90.3000.0).

Thank you marc57 for emailing me the WinME .dll file. As soon as I installed it and rebooted I heard the familiar voice tell me that the Avast! virus database had updated. Mission accomplished!

Several months ago a neighbor gave me this Micron "TransPort" TREK 2 AGP laptop with a dead HDD. It did not take long to discover that this is a very obscure laptop (read: old and with South African lineage) with very hard to find drivers. If this had been a customer's laptop I would have told them to toss it, but I decided to accept the challenge as a learning experience. I have had it off-and-on running several times and each time something happens to require me to start the process of reinstallation all over again. This last time when I tried to install QuickTimeAlt and RealAlt it froze up yet again. I am apparently still having driver conflicts.

Thanks to all for getting involved in my learning experience.

Hi GeneJ,

Download the unofficial service pack for Win 98 SE from here:
http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu9V3vgVGlwMBhHVXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB2bGViN2ZsBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDNARzZWMDc3IEdnRpZAM-/SIG=11vg5fntg/EXP=1174867959/**http%3a//www.majorgeeks.com/download4131.html

This will give you the dll, and make your OS more compatible with MEm while it still is Win 98 SE (also displays the ME icons).
