Scan password protected files
« on: February 14, 2004, 05:53:54 PM »
I can scan exe files because they are password protected according to avast report.

How can I override this protection?

Thanks.

Hi,

you can't override this, and there's no point to..
because the file (probably a self-extracting archive; made by yourself??) can't be executed unless you decrypt it with the password: then avast shield would intercept, if there's anything malicious in it

you can scan the contents if you open the file with Winzip, Winrar ... and supply the password and unpack it, then scanning the resulting files

I guess there are only SOME exe-fils you can't scan ? or all EXEs on your PC ?

Claudio,

Files can be protected by a "program" password which prevents tampering with the coding.

Can you give me an example of one of the paths that are marked password protected?
The question is to determine "who" put the password onto the file.

What Whocares has stated is in effect true, but sometimes not necessary.
