Great article, I don't think the suit will be aproved however it will show Microsoft that people notice their "cheating" practices and will show the people a different side of Microsoft.

The Vista Home Basic is a real dog, a totaly crippled excuse for an OS with less functionality than XP Home. I think many will be very disappointed if they bought a vista ready system only to find if is only ready for vista home basic.

My apologies to your dog, don't shoot ;D

And even VHB hardly works at all with less than 1GB RAM!

The way I see it is, that Microsoft is advertising Vista with great new features, among the most exciting one being Windows Aero which will not run on Vista Home Basic, they are basically saying that you will get all of the core features of Vista which is fine, but the way they are advertising it would seem like Aero is a core feature...

The same is true of the media features which are also missing from VHB, which is pretty naked by comparison. Most of these features already exist in XP Home, so it would be a distinct downgrade.

There was a free upgrade to Windows Basic with that new computer I gave my daughter. I've told her to forget about it, and continue to use XP, which she is familiar with, and uses at work.

Personally, I think a lot of those free upgrades to Windows Basic will go unused, now that we are getting a clearer picture, of just how dumbed down that version is compared to XP.

Boy, I am sure glad that I haven't tried it yet. I will stay with XP until the bitter end.

I think Windows Basic will die a long, slow death, but overall I think Vista will be a pretty good OS after they issue an SP1 service pack to chase the squirrels out of the carburetor.

Though Linux is my primary operating system, I'll always remain dual booted, because there's a few things I still do on Windows (by choice, not because there's not an open source alternative). I plan on getting a new box after SP1.

Oh pliz, we've seen worse than this and no one cared. But now everyone wants to sue someone.
NVIDIA released Vista drivers few days later, everyones wants to sue NVIDIA. NVIDIA says it's cards are Vista capable. People disagree, sue NVIDIA!!!! Creative Labs released X-Fi drivers half month later, everyone wants to sue them. ormer ATi failed to release stable Linux drivers, SUE THEM! Microsoft released their OS on time but dumb people just have to sue someone so they sue Microsoft. Whats next? Suing car manufacturers because they write on speedometer that my car can go 220 km/h even though i can't reach that speed? C'mon!? ::)

The only ones who ever benefit from these types of frivolous lawsuits are the Attorneys.
This is another factor that continues to drive up the price.
Unfortunately since most law-makers and politicians are attorneys, this type of behavior
continues to be encouraged.  >:(
