freezing up while doing thorough scan

I installed avast yesterday..scanning thoroughly..it even detected 2 viruses(files which i deleted)was going smoothly for quite awhile until computer completely froze....had to shut to down completely..tried again to make full scann...same freeze up..computer is crashing pretty badly recently..ANY SUGGESTIONS?  ...PLEASE :(

What's your OS ?
Is archive scanning ON ?
Please, turn reporting ON: Settings\Report file\Create report file & set [OK files] - and try to figure out what file makes avast to freeze. Thanks.
