Handling of incoming messages
« on: February 04, 2004, 02:47:03 PM »
When a message containing virus is received you get a warning a a couple of choices (including deleting the attachment from the message).

But, if you want to set up automatic handling of this you only have the choises "Silent mode: Yes or No". And under Heuristic "Let be delivered, Delete/Deny access, Mark in subject filed". Which of these options does the same (that is only deletes the infected attachment - not rest of message).

In the help file they talk about an extra "tab" with options on what to do, but I can't find that in the program (the help files doesn't reflect the tabs I really have in the options).

"Silent Mode: No" deletes an infected attachment from a message and moves it to the chest.

The tab "Virus" for complex configuration of virus actions is in Enhanced interface (avast PRO).

What about the heuristics settings. What does the different settings there do with the message?

Hi,
heuristic check is performed only when classic virus scan doesn't find a virus.
Options for silent mode:
Let it be delivered - it means OK, continue - nothing is done
Delete/Deny access - for incoming message - email is destroyed (replaced with avast! template with some info); for outgoing message - sending of email is blocked
Mark it in subject field - in subject of email is added prefix "[avast! - SUSPICIOUS]"

Why this option 'delete' all email body?
I mean, I thought you will just have an maked email with the same body...  :-\
I'm receiving blank emails marked in the subject field. Is it right?

Can you rephrase your question? I don't understand.

Thanks

technical: when "Mark it in subject field" is selected, body of email should be intact. What provider does delete email body? Internet Mail or Outlook/Exchange??? For what types of messages (inbound/outbound)? And what about disable/enable "Insert info into messages". Does this affect it? thanks! pavels
