Avast! Virus Cleaner could not be found
« on: February 22, 2004, 01:00:27 PM »
I was reading help when i got to this text:

Starting avast! Virus Cleaner

-From the Enhanced User Interface, select File ® Start avast! Virus Cleaner.
-From the "A Virus Was Found" window, using the button "Completely remove the virus from the system".
-Run the stand-alone application downloaded from the ALWIL Software pages. In this case, make sure you have disabled any resident antivirus protection before starting the tool!

Ok i went to Enhanced Interface and started Avast! Virus Cleaner, and got this error:
The specified module could not be found
Cannot start the cleaner

The only thing i didn't install was Outlook/Exchange and Script Blocking module (im using Opera).
Whats wrong and how can i fix this?

I have latest Avast! 4 Pro and WinXP+SP1

That's rather strange... didn't you delete some files from the TEMP folder?
On every avast! startup (i.e. usually when Windows is started), avast! Virus Cleaner is extracted from the VPS file to the TEMP folder as clnr0.dll file. Can you see such a file anywhere on your disk?

Aha thx. I'm using my little batch script that flushes all files inside TEMP. I've restarted machine and Virus Cleaner was working again.
Guess i'll have to somehow exclude _avast4_ folder...
