Error Message
« on: April 16, 2007, 08:28:16 AM »
Information about current update:
Last encountered error: The license key for this product is invalid.

It happens everytime I try to update the antivirus. It also forces my computer to restart. It's getting annoying.

Do I just have to update the license or what?

What version of avast are you using? Which OS?
And what does the avast About box say about your license?

Thanks
Vlk

Do I just have to update the license or what?
Go to the SSL page version and register from there: https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG
See the tutorial:  http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm
Please take a look here: http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-invalid-license-number.html

What is the error message?
Is your system date/time correct?
Do you use copy & paste method?
Are you sure you do not include the 'last blank space' in the paragraph while copying & pasting?
Which avast version are you trying to register (Home or Professional)?

For complete information, please, post the last 50-100 files of avast log files:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\setup.log

I'm using the newest version of Avast, running Windows XP, not SP2. I never bothered getting SP2. I tried registering again, but I keep getting the same error message. This is what the log gives me when I check it:

Can you please check the avast About box, license section. What does it say?

Thanks
Vlk

One more thing: could you please ZIP the WHOLE avast4 folder (with subdirectories) and upload it to our ftp site?
The upload process is described here: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean about the About Avast section.

If you open the About Avast window, it has a couple of sections; one of them is related to the license.

Anyway, it would be better to do what I described in my last post above (send us the whole avast folder). I hope you have a decent Internet connection. :-[

Thanks

After sending, you can uninstall avast, restart, and install the latest version 4.7.981. Then just enter your current license key, you don't have to register again.

You sure that would work? It seems like the best possible solution, but what if it doesn't work?

I do think it might've happened because of a system crash I had a week ago. But Avast was able to update after that.

You can just delete file "jollyroger.vpu" from avast4\setup folder, it was corrupted.
Then update VPS or the whole program, corrupted file will be downloaded again

But will it be corrupt? Or is it going to be fixed?

Now it gives me an error message saying the package is broken.
