I downgrade to avast home (without script blocker). IE 7 works
Do you use any other security program that could interfere?
Which is your script settings into IE? I mean, the security level for Internet is set to 'default' settings? It's hard for me, an user, try to guess what's wrong. Hope Alwil team drop some light here.-

Edited... Wow... just a second and Kubecj jumped here. Thanks.

Hi,

I need to know:
your os
exact operations you did

Then, try this:
Repair avast, reboot

Did it help?

If not:
run command line (cmd.exe), cd (switch) to avast's directory, then run
aswregsvr.exe ahascr.dll

reboot

Did it help?

Please do it in this order so that we can get to the source of the problem.

Hi people!

I'm having the same problem.. I was using the free edition and thought it was good so upgraded to Pro and since then I cannot access my hotmail and other sites that use various scripts.. I tried disabling all the avast stuff but to no avail, in the end I uninstalled (which still didn't fix it) and then I had to do a system restore, which got things working again.  I just re-installed Avast to make sure it wasn't just a corrupt install (via a fresh download) and i'm back to square one!!

I am running Vista 64 Ultimate on a Pentium 820D, 2GB DDR2 Corsair XMS2, sata Hd...

I will try the steps you just mentioned Kubecj and let you know if they work..

Well I tried a few more things, but not had any luck thus-far.. I set the logging level to debug and tried watching to see if it said anything when i opened up my emails (which it's currently blocking me getting into among many other things!!) but nothing was logged, so that scuppered that idea... Now that i'm not the only person to have this problem, odds are there's plenty more people out there! Interestingly, I looked through the setup/installation log and where it detected my OS version it said Vista 64 (correct) but next to that it said AMD processor (or something similar) which is wrong as I have an Intel..

Just as another note, the problem occurs for me from both upgrade from free and also fresh install..  If any staff need any detailed info let me know and i'll help out as much as poss (i REALLY want this fixed!!)

OK, I'm afraid there's really a problem in the current version of avast setup. That is, tt doesn't install the Script Blocker module correctly if upgrading from the Home Edition.

We'll think of ways to fix the issue. In the meantime, I have created a small reg file. Importing (=clicking) this file should fix the problem.

For 32-bit Windows version: http://public.avast.com/~vlk/fix-sb32.reg
For 64-bit Windows version: http://public.avast.com/~vlk/fix-sb64.reg

A reboot may be necessary for the changes to become effective.

Please let me know if it works.

Thanks

If you don't know which version you have, it is 32-bit!  ;)

Seriously, 64-bit XP wasn't even distributed using normal channels - it was more or less a "geek thing"... :)

I said XP 64-bit, not Vista.

Now, put the badge off! :P

I just signed up to this forum and noticed alot of posts on a problem I was having. This started happening last night, probly after windows update OR an update of Avast.

Random web sites would not load. IE: www.google.com would not work. www.yahoo.com would work. www.microsoft.com would not work.

I have the 64-bit version of Avast Pro running on Windows XP x64.

80% of the web sites would not work, 20% would work.
I have VMWare installed because I use it as a LAB for working on my MCSE certification.

When, I ran 32-bit windows from inside a virtual machine, I could connect to any website 100%. I then shutdown VMWare and went back to my desktop.

I then ran cmd.exe and used nslookup and ping to test google.com. I manged to ping www.google.com successfully and managed to resolve the correct ip address of www.google.com. Yet, when I typed in www.google.com or the IP address of www.google.com, I was unable to connect to the website.

I find it intersting that even after a clean install of windows xp, that the problem persists:

Stevieboy, did you ONLY install avast after the install? Get back to me on this one, because knowing that the issue is not a virus (becasue a clean install), and is either caused by Windows or Avast!

Notice that we both have a 64-bit OS. I am not home right now, and the error still persists on my computer, I will mess around with avast to see if that fixes the problem.

Erik, it's really hard to tell if the issue you're having is the same as the one of GreGambler and Stevie... however, it's quite easy to find this out by trying to apply the reg patch described above.

Thanks
