Internet Explorer Problem
« on: April 23, 2007, 08:38:31 PM »
Why is it I have to shutdown AVAST to get my Internet Explorer to work?
This only happens when I boot my computer.  I'll click on the Internet Explorer
and it will pop-up but it never finishes loading.  It just sits there blank screen.
I have to shut-down AVAST.  I go the the Avast icon in the lower right corner,
click stop, wait for all the shields to stop, then just restart AVAST.  Then I click on my
Internet Explorer and it works fine.
Why is it I have to shut-down AVAST then restart it to get to use my Int. Explorer?

Thanks for any help.

You shouldn't.
You could also just terminate the Web Shield and that should allow browsing, see below for the likely cause of the problem.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entries for them and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

This might sound really stupid, but is ZoneAlarm a firewall?
I honestly have no clue.  I downloaded ZoneAlarm free last year
and that is the only thing that starts up when I boot my system.
My computer ignorance might chase you away.  So any help you
throw my way, just bare with me.  : )

Yes it is.

I haven't used ZA for many years, but there should be an icon in the system tray (bottom right of your screen), double click on that should open the interface. Look for Program or Application Control, look for ashWebSv.exe, ensure it isn't blocked.

I've officially started over with AVAST.
I uninstalled last night and I have yet
to reinstall it.
Should I uninstall ZONEALARM too?
When I opened my program control on ZA like you told me too,
I did not see ashWebSv.exe.  I did see a few
AVAST programs and I did set them to allow Za.
I noticed my computer was very, very slow at
pulling up websites after I did this.  That is what
prompted me to uninstall and start from scratch.

I have ZA and avast! on an 'old' machine (in computer terms- 1.8GHz, 256M RAM) with no slow down.

You should leave ZA installed and reinstall avast!

If you have problems, post a HijackThis! log as described in the link below: this will allow us to spot any malware problems, software conflicts etc.

I'm having the same problem. I am using windows xp medica center edition and I installed the latest version of avat home edition. I can't connect to the internet unless I disable avast online protection. I checked my firewall and avast has full access. Can anyone help or has suggestions I would appreciate it!
