What is your indication (source) that Avast is slow to start ?
If you are basing it on when you see the avast tray icon, then that is somewhat false as the UI (tray icon) loads much later than the system drivers.

Thank you - my time judgement is from when my desktop screen comes up to when the Avast icon appears.
I will only update to 21H1 when MS offers it on the Windows update and even then I will let it be on the shelf for at least one month, probably more.
You're welcome.
Yes the tray icon does take a little time to appear it is essentially only the UI interface, the main services load very early in the windows boot (though I don't have any exact figures).
With my Windows Update settings, I have it fairly strict on a laptop and possibly being on battery at the time, I have set my working hours, plus options, etc. so it shouldn't automatically download/install and boot. I do on occasion get Notifications about an update. But I also periodically check for updates, those who do that are likely to be offered the 21H1 update sooner (provided their system is 'ready' for it).
It was offered to me, I accepted is and the download and installation was very quick, quicker than any previous feature update so far. About 4-5 minutes to download, initialise, install, restart and finalise. Though some have found it to take much, much longer.
