Whatsapp Windows application freezing computer during image display: Avast?

I have Avast Premium Security installed.
I also have Whatsapp Windows 10 app installed.

Every time I try to view an image in a whatsapp message / enlarge it by pressing the + icon, the whole computer freezes for several seconds.

I tried asking in many places, and everyone points me to the antivirus program that may be causing it.

How can I diagnose and solve it? I did not find any place in Avast to turn off a specific app or action.

Thanks. But this does not help. There is a specific problem with displaying images from whatsapp. Tried what you suggested, did not change anything.

- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?
