Nice Nice At All
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone
number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's
name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the
person's house. 
Everyone should be aware of this!  It's a nationwide reverse telephone book.
If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to
find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. 
Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried  my
number and it came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to our
house. 
I filled out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the
same. Quite scary. Please look up your own number.
In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: Google
(http://www.google.com/) Type your phone  number in the search bar (i.e.
555-555-1212) and hit enter. 
In order to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply
click on your telephone  number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal
takes 48-hours. 
Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an
unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone
who needs to know this.

Mine is a published Number and it doesn't show up.
The number however is on the federal "Do not call" list.

As Al968 mentions above, this is not new. I used something similar about 5 years ago to find an old friend from my school days. So, such things can have a good use. But as drhayden states, it can be a bad thing also.

Whether your telephone number can be found through Google is your own responsibility. If you digitize your life, it will be Googled, Yahooed or what have ye. You know this to be so. And there is money involved. Data is money. The other side of the coin is that when I see "anonymous" for a call on a display as by rule I will not answer it, because I do not like to be harassed, or I should know the call is coming from someone I know. And all American calls read "anonymous" by default on displays in the rest of the world. The privacy realm is a the field of double standards per se. Microsoft sits on all of your computer ids, and I hear no-one about that matter, but the cold war between M$ and Google is going on. That is sure.

Well, just for grins,  I went to the site, and entered my phone number. I waited and the information it gave me was for someone else and not my name. Guess I am listed under someone else's number or name? Strange.
I have had the same phone number for more than 25 years.
