Who can tell me more on the sleipnir browser?
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:56:52 AM »
Hello forum members,

Polonus downloaded and tried the Japanese sleipnir browser. Well that is the english version of this.
I like to find some tweak guide for it. http://www.fenrir.co.jp/sleipnir2-the-world/
Most customizable browser for advanced users. Who can give me more details for security settings, tweakings, extensions etc.?

Hi drhayden1,

Yes, the webshield if it works with IE it will work with sleipnir, no sweat.  I think this browser is something for those that cling to IE7, and won't use for some reason or other an alternate browser like Opera, Firefox or Flock. I think sleipnir is a browser that bob3160 would go for, as far as I know the man.
I tell you why I tried this one, because outside Japan it has such a very small platform, that is an advantage "an sich", and it cooperates with IE or FF.
I have WinXP SP2 with IE7, and because of all the issues with this browser I only use it on my admin account for updating purposes or if something won't work with Flock. "Once bitten, twice shy", as they say. The other browser to do that on an USB stick is now sleipnir, works as fast there as IE7 on the hard disk, fires up in almost an instant. Then I have my Flock (my own adaption of it, coded some scripts for it (getElementbyClass was my code, adopted to FF now), made some specific browser code filters, iterators etc, and run the latest nightly build with various security add-ons. So that is now my 97 MB heavy hobby horse, because I know this browser best, and always add what I find at the "burning edge". Then I have Opera, because my search-guru advised to use it, but it sits there mostly idle, and now I am just testing and learning to work this sleipnir promishing browser. Well that is it in a nutshell. Latest add-on for Flock  Super Drag and Go, to throw a link whereever you go? Well I think sleipnir is just IE7 but with extras, more features, and more secure............

Any connection to the eight legged horse given to Odin?  Loki's offspring from when he was shapeshifted as a mare.  :-D

probably just the name ???
The Tängvide image stone is thought to show Odin entering Valhalla riding on SleipnirSleipnir is also a Japanese web browser.
In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is Odin's magical eight-legged steed, and the greatest of all horses. His name means smooth or gliding, and is related to the English word "slippery".

From the logo produced by the developers, as posted by polonus http://www.fenrir.co.jp/getsleipnir/get-browser-no1.gif I'd say they certainly intended some connection.

BTW polonus, the Southern Hemisphere plug-in's redundant these days, since we gave up walking on our hands and typing with our feet.

From the domain name "fenrir" it must be related because Fenrir is the monster wolf son of Loki who will slay odin at Götterdämmerung.  Bit off topic sorry hehe.

That's it! That's the connection. Sleipnir browser is "slippery", smooth and fast - like an eight-legged horse (or an eight-cylinder Saleen Mustang!)

Hi you browser freaks,

I knew that some of you when they fired this one up would like it from the start for all the possibilties. It is slick and the way it renders the pages and for instance go to your local providers webmail and you will see the difference, this browser has been built with utmost care for the users. And it is fast. Actually I feel a bit sorry I gave away the link, because being on a small platform browser has it's advantages.
O.K. start to like like the speed of this eight legged horse browser,

Polonus
It may be fast but it lacks the ability to add security plugins like SiteAdvisor.
It also wouldn't allow the Google Toolbar or any other additions.

Hi Bob,

If that is the case use www.scandoo.com as your favourite searchpage and have the same features as SiteAdvisor. Google Toolbar does not score with my security feeling. I try to look around for the security scripting it swallows, and then report to you. So until then bob3160 might abstain from it, right?

Just my 0.02, neither scandoo nor siteadvisor.
I'd rather Finjan 8)
