automtic update?
« on: February 19, 2004, 10:46:40 AM »
Can I configure Avast 4/home to make an automtic update of virus definitions as soon as I have an internet connection up, or can it only be configured to be done at a specific time, or what criteria can I choose for update?

If you set updates to "Automatic" (under Settings, in the menu), and set connection to "I dial up" (or however it's worded), then avast will check for updates almost immediately after you come online (20 seconds rings a bell in my memory) and every 4 hours afterwards.

Well, actually even if you don't set the "I dial up" thing it should detect the connection and start the update...

(but using a different mechanism for the detection - by pinging, instead of querying the modem status)
