Still happening to me. Blocking loads of different completely valid emails. No way to unquarantine, restore, anything. Only the headers can be read.

Prog version 21.5.2470 build 21.5.6354.679

Hi,

The detection was disabled on 28.6.2021. Are you still receiving these detections?
Please try to manually update the virus definitions. Please see this guide: https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/Update-Antivirus/
If the detection is still occurring after the update, please report it via https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php
This issue is totally annoying, since the content of the quarantined e-mails can’t be restored back to where they came from, you just get an error when trying to restore them from the vault, even thou the content is clearly available in the vault and can be extracted manually, and as of 02.07.2021 this is still happening, so it would probably be a good idea to add an option in the Mail Shield settings to just mark the e-mail in the subject and not quarantine it, unless you can fix the problem with not being able to restore the e-mails from quarantine.

There at the bare minimum needs to be a way to shut this off. None of the exception or restore functionality works. It's like an entire chunk of functionality is gone, or was merged and is now broken. I can't tell.

Thanks for all the input.

This pop-up has finally stopped appearing following direct emails with Avast a follows:

According to my information from our virus specialists, this was a false detection on our side.

I am also having this problem. I have received 12 of these messages since 6/26/21. They are not suspicious, one of them was sent from me with my other email account to me. I am unable to restore or restore and add exception. I have reported as false positives with no response. This is a new problem for me, because usually if it is a mistake, I am able to restore. I am very frustrated because I am unable to retrieve these emails. How do we fix this?

Wasn't this a conflict while running Spectrum Anti Bot Scanner - charter.net is scam messages.

Wait for a final verdict from avast team, they are the only ones to comment on this.

Me too - same here - and just posted a reply on another thread here about mail sheild blocking emails - in all these thread the main idea is this is happening to many with no option to recover or stop it - AVAST is aware of it and stopped it for some people apparently (can't really tell) and I've sent sample false positive email to AVAST but no reply and no fix yet.  I'm writing here to mention i turned off mail shield (this works to stop it but is drastic maneuver) then instructed AVAST to never quarantine automatically but to ask every time what to do - turned mail shield back on and it STILL auto-quarantines.  This is of unacceptable behavior as it seems something is drastically wrong with AVAST all sudden and needs an immediate fix to stop this intolerable behavior permanent.  TIA

Just an update - I re-repaired Thunderbird email folder w/mail shield off and all emails restored and unmarked ***VIRUS***.
JIC this update helps.  Hope AVAST can find a fix for this soon - mail shield off is not a good resolution for this problem.

Just takes one generic detected mail to set this whole pattern off (plain txt messages seem unaffected).
Hopefully avast team will look into the issue, as it also has been reported in France, see:
So it seems more end-users are being affected by this generic detection,

Hi - Just an update - after sending a sample email in question from quarantine, Avast generously got back to say, "Our virus specialists have been working on this problem and it has been resolved. Detection should not be appearing anymore."
