Avast nave found a worm in my PC
« on: June 02, 2007, 01:54:54 PM »
I want to ask, how it's come in if I don't use p2p and avast(home edition) is started? What is the role of ashWebSv.exe ?What is Beaglt-UR - is this the worm?

avast is a resident scanner, always on and it has a number of on-access resident scanners. If you don't use a P2P application then you can terminate the P2P Shield.

Web Shield:
Quote from: Extract avast help file
Web Shield - Provider Settings

Web Shield provider protects your computer from viruses that may infect your computer when browsing the Internet - especially when downloading files from web pages.

If you - possibly by mistake - download an infected file and try to start it, avast! will prevent the infection thanks to its Standard Shield provider (which scans all files that you start of open). With Web Shield, however, the virus will be detected even sooner - during the download of the file. So, Web Shield makes your computer even safer than before.

Yes BEAGLE-UR is a worm, Beagl't'-UR I assume is a typo.

Yes svelte,  if that file is in a Temp folder, you can delete it, but also you can sent it to the "Chest" (analog of Quarantine). The files, even infected ones can't do any harm, if they're in the "Chest".
Take care.

Since this is another variant 'Beagle-US' there is a likelihood that you may have other elements downloading this stuff.

What Operating System are you using ? is it up to date ?
What is your firewall ?

If you haven't already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
1. AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME. Or SUPERantispyware Or Spyware Terminator

 :)  Hi svelte :

One of the best programs to get rid of "worms" is the FREE version of
     SUPERAntiSpyware from www.superantispyware.com .

SPECIFICALLY, WHAT McAfee program(s) are you using ?

You can do a google search for the beagle-?? where ?? is the variant, though because there is no standard for naming viruses you may not find much. Or just search for win32:beagle and that would give a general idea of what it can do, http://www.google.com/search?q=win32%3Abeagle.
