no VRDB ball on installation
« on: November 05, 2006, 07:37:24 PM »
Hi, I never had a VRDB ball appear at all after I installed Avast 4 home edition.
On the screen of avast is says" not done yet". Do I need to do something to start up this function. I have already tried a repair on my add/remove programs.

Do you have the 'a' blue icon?
Don't worry the 'i' icon is just an icon, VRDB will be working.

Maybe this help: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=14356.msg121337#msg121337
Or you can check your avast4.ini file settings. Click 'Settings' in my signature and browse for the VRDB section.  :)

Thanks for your reply. I am not getting any settings for VRDB when I right click on the "a" icon. I did look at the link you sent, but couldn't find the answer there from other threads. As far as going into the Data files, I don't know how to do that. I don;t think the VRDB is working. BTW, I installed 4.7 version, don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your last message. I am assuming you wanted me to check my avast.ini file, which I did. It does differ from what you had listed on the forum link, the only reference to VRDB was this:  VRDBBalloonShown=1
I have copied and pasted that from the actual notepad file. There is no other reference at all. Thanks for continuing to try to help me.

VRDBBalloonShown=1
This is to shown an info about what is VRDB on the very first run of avast, after installation.

If you read the first post at that thread you'll see that you could ADD the lines I've posted because a lot of them are not written there on the default avast4.ini file (although most of the values are hardcoded and will be taken even when they're not written on the ini file).

I had the problem where there was no VRDB ball after a fresh installation
In fact nothing of the VRDB was installed.
I uninstalled avast booted and installed again now it is working properly.

regards

Better last than never...
Anyway, it shouldn't work this way and should work at the first.
