I think I will wait a little while to let them iron out any kinks. I posted about possible false positive detections (IMHO) in their support forums 13 days ago and not a single response, I bumped the post yesterday and no response.

So I would hate to experience any problem and have to seek help on their support forum, it is totally pants.

I hope this version works better than the last version ... which I dumped in favor of SpywareTerminator.

Indeed, lack of support is annoying...

I hope this version works better than the last version ... which I dumped in favor of SpywareTerminator.
I merely use the last version as it only detects MRU and nothing more... AVGas, SpywareTerminator and SuperAntispyware rule!

But I can't resist to test 8)

The new version seems to have a service in memory even when not running, like SuperAntiSpyware.

Looks like it might get the boot if I don't find a way to disable it.

freewheelinfrank...i downloaded it and ran a full scan and all it found was MRU's and in my task manager processes there's a aawservice.exe running at a whopping mem usuage of 36,160K (at present)even though its not on or i have the plus version with ad-watch-can you disable this or not and if not ad-aware 2007 is going the way of the add/remove programs function
here's what winpatrol plus said –C:\PROGRAM FILES\LAVASOFT\AD-AWARE 2007\AAWSERVICE.EXE
Aawservice.exe installs with AdAware 2007. At the time of this writing, this product was still being beta tested. This program promises the highest level of protection against malicious spyware and malware including keyloggers, hijackers and downloaders. Lavasoft's CSI technology promises protection from both known and emerging threat variants and gives you real-time protection using the Ad-Watch real-time monitor. You'll find more information, support, and some handy FAQs at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/faqs.php.
I killed the task(the Kill Task function does not delete the program file from your hard drive; it merely halts the program in memory)

using winpatrol and see what happens ::) :P
it reappears when i start ad-aware again-is that a safe way to do it or not ???
why is it running in the background in the first place :P

Hi Dan,

Have sent you a PM with instruction in the case you have an additional Trojan downloaded.
This is just eating cycles. This is the predicament of the so-called total solutions it stalls computers.
Why did you download it so fast. It was just being announced. Do not react to every prompt a program
gives, but wait for others to report for eventual NAGS! In that case the proverb says: "The early bird catches the worm", but then literally... ;D

 :(

The same it true for AVG-AS it to has guard running even though it is non-resident, I stopped the service and set the service to Manual. That way I can start it (batch file with the Net Start "AVG Anti-Spyware Guard" command) you could use the same trick to start the service when you need it.

Hi Dan,

Lesson learned here. Do not rush into things. Take a sip of the old waterpipe, and reconsider.
A secure OS wasn't built in one day, neither was Rome for that matter. And curiosity killed
the curious ( well ..I mean to say... the cat, which was animated beyond clicking!).
Too much things running in the background can consume your CPU, slow down or even stall
processes. But getting back to being serious now: download StartupList from Soeperman Enterprises Ltd here: http://castlecops.com/zx/Merijn/startuplist.zip , and analyze what is to start up automatically real deep, and whether you need some spurious proggie or executables to load at start-up. Very educating practice to explore. To analyze the processes go to CatleCops -StartupList. All's well that ends well,

Your friend Damian

Damien,
Dan already has that option available within Winpatrol Plus which I know he has running.
Since the latest version of Ad-Aware monitors activity in the background, part of it must stay resident or that part wouldn't be functioning.
While a lot of you are sometimes over cautious, there are those of us who enjoy trying new
programs especially when they are from old, established and trusted friends.  :)
Most of the time I'm one of those snatching up new versions as soon as they are released.
Since I didn't use the previous version of Ad-Aware, I saw no reason to download this one.  ;D

Hi bob3160,

But why is this a problem for our friend drhayden1? It is nothing unlikely for anti-spyware programs (the newer ones) to scan silently in the background. Same with COMODO BoClean, but this has not been a problem for a normal modern comp with enough CPU. Over-cautious is another attitude than installing an update right as it comes available. The Chinese who are now after Symantec also reacted immediately to an update. But it is always good to pre-scan before you download anything period. Better safe than sorry,
