An early morning visitor.
<snip image>

For breakfast ;)
<snip>
No hasenfeffer. I enjoy watching them. :) Would love to see some pictures of the ducklings.
I don't have a pond. so there aren't any ducks near me.

Well I managed to get some pics, but to get them at what I consider a reasonable file size some definition is lost.

The pond is reasonably big, a teardrop shape about 30 yards at its longest and 20 yards at its widest.

It won't be that long before these ducklings are big enough and whilst I can stand outside my back door and put some food out a few yards away they have no problem with my proximity.  There are a lot of people in the village that come to the pond with their kids to feed the ducks, that is why there are so damn many of them.
I can see the proud Mom. Is the pond big enough for a rowboat?

It big enough, but you aren't going to go very far.  Unfortunately kids (big) throw all sorts of crap in it.  I certainly wouldn't like to try swimming in it isn't very deep and has a very silty bottom.  There are also hundreds of goldfish in there.

View from my back upstairs window.  Getting a little dark now.

Community cleanup might be in order. :)
That's what we did here many years ago when our "Lake" became a dumping ground.
We don't have any water but we now have a nice park.

The village community isn't very community spirited, there is no community centre.  There is a village hall but that isn't anywhere like yours, it isn't open all of the time.  The village hall committee organise a few functions a year and it is also hired out for other activities.  Some time ago we grubbed out a number of willow trees to give a better view/access to see the pond.

I fish lots of crap out of it as it is an eyesore.  The largest piece was a road barrier a big hollow triangular structure that is filled with water when in location making it portable.  That is still behind my garage as I have found no easy way to dispose of it.  We/I have fished out bikes, tyres, refrigerator shelves/inserts and on many occasions the lifesaving ring that is at the side of the pond.

Mindless idiots, some new seats were put in by the sports field, one very nice wooden one carved and sculpted to look great, it has already had some idiot vandalise it.

Kids run wild, walk down the street blatantly smoking dope.  The parents have little or no control (or interest) over their kids.  Well that's the way it seems, I guess I'm getting old :)

Sorry about that.

I had a bit of hassle posting also, but the back key in firefox (and occasionally a refresh) usually brings it back.  I also use an add-on Form History Control that maintains data from text input that can be recalled until you clear it.

I had to do a lot of image editing to bring the file size down and still had to spread them out over three posts.

The forum has changed the attachment settings 4 attachments (normal) image not to be greater than 1024kb, but what has changed is the cumulative total also 1024kb (it used to be 4mb).

This one is a little better in that it was much lighter and it was at the time when we removed many of the willow trees.  After they were sawn down, they were later grubbed completely out and the fence removed.  The edge of the pond was graded so it wasn't too steep, people take advantage to have a bit of a picnic.  If only all of them would take their rubbish away.

A sturdy seat placed about 10 yards back for a good view of the pond with safety for parents with children.

Very pretty. Is this spring fed or, man made?

This morning at the pond before I went out for my walk.
Very pretty. Is this spring fed or, man made?

It is basically the water table (and rain, etc.) that keeps it fed.

I have lived here since 1990 and I have never seen it dry, it has been lower this year than I have seen it but after a decent spell of rain it is almost at normal levels.  My back garden fence blew over three times, in the end I never put it back up.  I cleared all of the weeds, digging the ground over for months to get rid of persistent weeds and grassed it.  My next door neighbour and I both mow the grassed area to keep it looking reasonable.

You can see a small shrub/conifer, bottom right near the bird table is about 9 to 10 feet tall, that was originally one of 6 in my front garden (when I moved in).  They died off caused by wind burn, the leaves go brown and die off and don't recover.  This one was the last remaining one at 18 inches tall when I replanted it on the edge of my back garden where it has thrived (on neglect).

The main green in the distance (top right, much bigger than what you can see) is regularly cut under contract.  Some times in the early morning I have seen a couple of small deer (Muntjac and Roe deer) on it, so it attracts a lot of wildlife.

Hi David,

Did you ever use IrfanView? You can use only 1 function: downsize the original picture and save it.

Yes I do, that is what I started with, downsizing/resizing only goes so far (possibly less than half) they were also jpg files to start with and .png format can go down even further.

but I also used my screen capture software to fine tune it even further.  The problem was many of these started out as photos of 5-6MB, to get them to a size acceptable the the forum attachments was tough.
