I guess it's hard to understand:
if it's not checked, it wouln't be downloaded

If it's checked by default it will be downloaded

The first option (unchecked) can't do any harm to your system if you select the download
or update button.

The second option get's you the download and the junk you most likely didn't want.

This has nothing to do with Apple vs Microsoft.  It's all about looking out for the consumer not "Big Business"  ;D ;D
