Why is it that no one complains that Windows Update makes you check what you want
Because they leave the choice of the downloads up to the consumer.
Without any action, nothing is downloaded. That's the way it should be.
Which is part of the problem, Bob ... no one wants to be responsible for the actions taken. It is far easier to place the blame on others such as Apple, Windows Update, etc for downloads the consumer later did not want installed.
Each computer user, and especially those regulars on forums such as this, should be advocating the use of responsible actions for the security of our computers and of those who come here for help. It is each consumer's responsibility for the security of their computers as well as what is downloaded onto their computers no matter in what form the download is presented. The picture Tech posred clearly shows the difference in the downloads available. God forbid a consumer should have to read, think, and make a few mouse clicks to uncheck unwanted downloads that are clearly categorized.
