exactly, they're like mafiosi trying to take control of an area, but instead of using guns they're using patents and tribunals ;D

I certainly wouldn't consider it fair game, what they are doing is breaking the law in many countries and I expect they will get their fingers rapped.

When the whole idea of their actions was meant to detect 'secured wifi hot spots' they not only recorded all wifi connections secured or otherwise and by all accounts 'took' data, information.

I absolutely believe you should secure your wifi, but there are huge numbers that don't know this and are none the wiser. If you happen to leave your front door unlocked you don't expect people to enter and walk off with your property. In fact if you did that in the good old US of A your likely to get shot, not that I'm suggesting google gets shot ;D

it's been advertised everywhere that WEP wasn't secure, so if people get spied or hacked because they still don't feel the need to switch to WPA or WPA2, they shouldn't complain. One thing though, WEP should be technically banned from all wi-fi routers, this would solve the problem once for all.
