it's been advertised everywhere that WEP wasn't secure, so if people get spied or hacked because they still don't feel the need to switch to WPA or WPA2, they shouldn't complain. One thing though, WEP should be technically banned from all wi-fi routers, this would solve the problem once for all.

An article worth a look and possible a rebuttal

PC Pitstop Research analyzed 50,258 computers and found the following:

23% of computers have no active security protection.
14% of the computers had some sort of high level threat.
Spyware is the most common malware threat followed by Rogue Security Software.
Kaspersky protects the best against Rogue Security Software and Trend Micro is the worst.
Symantec protects against spyware the best, and Kaspersky the worst.
Trend protects the best against keyloggers and Avast fares the worst.
Kaspersky protects against viruses the best, and Symantec tails the pack.

How stastically accurate can this be? Probably not too accurate, based on 1 billion in the world this survey covers .005%. Even assuming 20% of these are in the western world – it covers .01% of the world's computers.
I would treat the results with a shaker of salt.

It does not show what version of avast! was used nor any of the other anti virus applications.

Its not that I jumped to a quick conclusion as I use PC Pitstop's Optimize and it works as advertised but is not worth the 3.0 1-year subscription now for $29.99. ::)
http://www.pcpitstop.com/store/optimize.asp

Now I have to figure out how to cancel that automatic annual renewal on my credit card.  :o

Flattr : A groundbreaking micropayment service

At the end of the month, your flat fee gets distributed evenly between all of the creators you've "Flattrd." If you clicked just five buttons, it gets divided by five; if you clicked a hundred, it gets split into a hundred equal tiny parts.
