Hi forum friends,

Plantago major was found about 4000 year ago in Europe for the first time. It was spread all over Europe by the swift feet of the Roman legionnaires and therefore is found on the side of the roads.
Plantain then was spread from Europe throughout the whole world. The Indians called the plant "the footstep of the white", because it  was found where Europeans went. They then knew Europeans had been around.

Hi modati,

But other old cultures also had their ways that are impressive for us. The old Scots called the plant "Slan-lus" (Gaelic) because it was a healing plant, and the antique Chinese sailors used the leaves on wounds, first the coarse side onto it and then the other side. Here in Holland children rubbed the leaves onto their skin when burnt from nettles, and because the old grandmother knew a lot about this natural herb lore, in Poland the plant is called "babka",

Indeed.  I wish I knew more myself.  They really don't teach you natural ways to heal yourself in America.  They will definitely tell you what pill to take.  I remember getting burned really bad on a grill when I was a kid.  Took some pills from the doctor.  Everything is synthetic :(.  I'm taking some botany courses at UNI next year.  Maybe they will bestow the knowledge of the earth on me.  All I really know how to do is start a fire now and filter water haha.  At least that's something!

Synthetic is based on natural. I recall having read a couple of times about pharmaceutical companies going to the Amazon forest to get patents on plants that are old healing remedies, in order to develop new commercial medicine.

All they do with a lot of synthetics is analyze the chemical makeup of what's found in nature and then duplicate it in a lab. Like the way the replicator worked in Star Trek, Next Generation. They just had to have a reserve of each chemical element and then they could synthetically create anything they wanted and it would be exactly the same as the original. I'm not saying we are at that point yet but it's basically the same process.
