Can't connect to update server (error 403)
« on: February 23, 2004, 12:13:48 PM »
Hi,
While trying to update the virus library, i always get an error saying I can't connect to the server.
I read the FAQ first and did check my proxy settings.
The thing is, if i set my proxy settings to SPECIFY PROXY SETTINGS and use NTLM authentication, the connection test seems to work fine.
Only when i leave this part of the configuration, Avast systematicallly puts the settings back to AUTO DETECT.
Can anybody help me, maybe send me the correct lines to insert in the avast4.ini

Thanx
Allan

Do I understand it correctly that you're beyond a NTML-only authentication proxy server? (i.e. MS Proxy/ISA)
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Allan, such a behaviour was observed only in ancient versions of the software. Do you have the latest version?

Also, do you set NTLM, Authentication and put there username/password?

I am using version 4.1.342
I believe this is a recent version.

I don not have to enter a username and pw

Thx

Hi all,

The problem is solved.
For some reason, when selecting the Authentication option "Specify username and password" the settings are stored correctly and the program doesn't keep setting it back to the Auto detect mode.

I can now dl the virus updates normally.

Thanks to the moderators of this forum for their quick reactions.
