Closing Avast Scanner Problem
« on: February 18, 2004, 09:24:15 PM »
I am using Avast home version 4.1.342 and Windows XP Home.

The problem I am having is that after Avast Scanner performs a complete scan, the only way I can close the scanner is to use Windows Task Manager and click "end task." If I click on the close "X" before I run the scan, the scanner will close. It is only after I run a scan that the scanner won't close. ???

And what happens when you press the "X" button? Nothing? Or maybe the click goes to the window below the avast! one (it there is any)?

When I click the "X", nothing happens. There is no window below the scanner. The scanner is frozen. You can't close it or minimize it. It's a small problem because if performs a successful scan. It just freezes after the scan is completed and the only way to close it is with the Task Manager.

Igor, just a shot...  ;D

Can you look at the translation names for the report files?
There are lot of 'strange' names... During my vacation I tried into a windows 95 laptop and the .txt files were blank and the scanner frozzed too...
Btw, the report files are empty  :-\

EletricTNT, do you use the English version?
Which is your OS? And your Internet Explorer version?  ;)

ElectricTNT: What I meant is this: a few times, I have encountered a strange problem with the skinning library - the avast! window became "transparent to mouse" - so, when I clicked on it, the click went to the window below (or desktop, if there was no other window below). So, avast! could not be closed in an ordinary way (how, when you cannot control it?)
So, if you put any other window below the avast! one, isn't it the case?

Technical: Could you be a little more specific? Report files for the Simple User Interface? Default name of the report or changed? Latest avast! version?

Of course:
Windows 95
Simple User Interface (Home Edition installation with a DEMO key)
Default name of the report file (Portuguese translation of avast!)
version 4.1.319

Does this help?

So, you only turned on the generation of the report file (which is off by default), right?

It was the old Windows 95 (not even OSR2)? I may try to find some and install to test... though it may not be exactly easy  ;D
What IE was there?

Yes, just turned on (no further changes, path, etc.)
It was a friend's laptop...
I do not know exactly but I think it was the OSR2 (in Portuguese).
The IE was the original for that OS (maybe version 4).
If I can, I'll post more.
By the way, in a XP or 98 system the Portuguese version of the report files are ok.

OK, fixed - the report files should be OK now even on Windows 95.
Thanks!

Really? Thanks!
It was strange but for some reason I though it was not a real bug but a problem in that computer  :-\

Thanks for all your help. I went to settings and clicked "Create a report file," ran a new scan and the scanner now closes after the scan has been run. Problem solved.

An API function behaved differently on old Win95 than on any of its successors. Since only a few people use Win95 now, it wasn't noticed.

I went to settings and clicked "Create a report file," ran a new scan and the scanner now closes after the scan has been run. Problem solved.

Hmm, quite a strange "solution"... if you turn it off again, does the problem reappear?
