AVAST make any programs run slowly under VISTA 64

hello all,
i'm a german user of AVAST4HOME 4.7.1001. unfortunatly my english isn't good so please excuse any mistakes.

myproblem is the following :
I run AVAST4HOME 4.7.1001 under VISTA 64 BUSINESS.

It works fine, but any programms are frooze when AVAST is running (e.g. googleearth) and any programms are run very slowly (e.g. thunderbird).

is there any configuration option or another way to fix this problems ?

If you set the Standard Shield configuration to Normal level (instead of High), will it help?
Is there any info in avast logs that could help us?

please, can you this phrase explain to me ?
How can I set the priority ?

right click the avast icon, select On-Access Protection Control or double click the avast icon. Click the Details... >> button if it is at the bottom of the window that pops-up, now click the Standard Shield icon, that allows access to the Standard Shield settings/configuration, see image.
