Repeated same threats - what do I do?
« on: July 15, 2021, 02:15:01 PM »
I have Free Avast Antivirus on my WIN10 desktop. Avast File Shield has suddenly started detecting a threat (Win64:MiscX-gen[PUP]) in two files, one a txt and the other a dll. I get daily notifications (one for each) that the threat has been dealt with and the offending files are in Quarantine. However, I cannot identify the file path C:\Users\Pedro\AppData\Local..... where the offending files normally reside. The threat notification states
"Threat type: App that I may have unknowingly installed"
"Process: C:\Program Files\WinZipSmartMonitor\WinZipSmartMonitor.exe"
I have WinZip for driver maintenance but "Smart Monitor" does not appear under Program Files.
I can keep keep sanctioning the files being sent to quarantine but the threat chest will eventually fill up, I presume. Apart from that it's a daily hassle.
Does this threat or this story register with anybody and what should I do about it?
Pedro
