I don't believe it will as this relates Virus Scans (to me that means on-demand scans) and not to the Core Shields.
just giving a try to avast , great software like always , but what i did not like i haven't found any possibility to skip or don't scan compressed files in core shields
there are not such option in the file shield and webshield

Placing an entry in the log file is different to scanning it surely ?
How do you know it is being scanned
If this is truly a signed archive then the geek:area default setting shouldn't scan it.
What type of archive is it ?
A self-extracting archive such as a .exe or .msi etc. may well be treated differently (rather than a very big .zip file, that has to be unpacked before it can be run, at which point the content would be scanned), but that would need to be confirmed by an Avast Team member, those responding in this topic are Avast Users.
