Does this Really have a virus?
« on: June 30, 2007, 06:49:49 AM »
Hi

While scanning tonight it detected again this:   C:\pagefile.sys, BV-Silly-82 Worm,  Well my actual Pagefile is on my second hard drive, and since Pagefile is a windows system file, i wouldn't think it would really be infected, this is the second week i got this. if anyone could reply to this, and let me know for sure, would be greatly appreciated

How big is the C:\pagefile.sys file?

and since Pagefile is a windows system file, i wouldn't think it would really be infected
Since? No, for sure not. System files could be easily infected, pagefile.sys is not an exception. But, in this particular case, this file is a virtual memory file. It could be an avast false positive, and it could be the case your computer was infected (the virus loaded in memory). I suggest you run a full (thorough) avast scanning and post the results.

The pagefile on C:\ was the same as real pagefile on second hard drive, size of 1,566,720--moved to my second drive to increase performance, and i had more space free on second hard drive, i ran a full scan last night with avast--using Thorough scan

So, you can delete the file on C:\ or, better, let it there and reduce its size to something like 256Mb.

Maybe a false positive from avast?
But, did you change virtual memory settings?

Didn't change any virtual memory settings at all, left that alone, and scan completed finding anything
