Install Home Edition quits
« on: July 03, 2007, 07:21:03 PM »
Attempting to install Home edition on Windows XP. Installer quits. Tried multiple times, quits at a different screen every time.

Ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, and norton Utilities. System is clean.

Ran the Avast uninstaller, and even manually removed every reference to Alwil and Avast from registry.

Same situtation every time.

Do you install, even in the past, Norton Antivirus?

Ran the Avast uninstaller, and even manually removed every reference to Alwil and Avast from registry.
Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

AVG had been installed and removed. Norton Utilites 2003 but not Anti-Virus.

Can not post that log because it was never installed! There is no log.

Even if you try no log is generated? No window error message? Nothing in Windows Events?

No log. No error message. No interaction whatsoever.

Just quits without warning on one of the installation screens, varies each time.

Or you're not the administrator of the computer (just a common user).
Or your setup file is corrupt.
Or you're trying to install avast in a folder with non-ASCII characters in the path.
Or another program is blocking avast installation.
Or your computer is infected and the virus is avoiding avast installation.

- Is your Windows updated?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'.
